Carla Morrison to play Orange County

image

The amazingly talented and beautiful Carla Morrison will cross the Mexican border and venture into Orange County this Tuesday, May 21st. This is good news for those of you who were debating driving down to San Diego on Wednesday night to see her. Although it’s still not listed on her website, she is scheduled to play the Constellation Room of the Observatory in Santa Ana. If you’ve never heard her, go listen now. If you’re debating going, buy a ticket now. As far as heavy mexicans’ go, she’s a rarity.

Palmetto Park becomes Beastie Playground

“This is Brooklyn’s park. This is America’s park. But specifically, this is the Adam Yauch Park.” That’s what Ad-Rock told the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation at a dedication ceremony on Friday afternoon in Brooklyn Heights. Yauch’s mother and father were in attendance at the park where MCA learned to ride a bike! Man, it’s hard to believe it’s been a year since he passed away. I haven’t met a heavy mexican yet that doesn’t love the Beastie Boys.

Don’t Forget Your Roots!!!

I absolutely hate reblogging anything. With that said, I found this image posted on a different page without much fanfare about it at all.  So as you can see, I really had no choice. I just had to say something. But what can be said of these guys that hasn’t been said already? They are legendary! They were there in the very beginning. Back when the lines between the punk and metal scenes were getting blurred. Back when the mish-mash of genres would soon birth speed or thrash metal - EXCEL was there. These guys actually helped me coin the term Heavy Mexican. They came straight out of Venice with a logo, graphics and attitude to spare. So bow down and pray you get into the next show cuz this one is apparently filled to capacity.

Rockotlan: La Casa de Heavy Metal

image

“Pedro Jimenez (left) loves rock and heavy metal – so much so that he operates a bar and restaurant dedicated to these genres of music. Jimenez, along with five partners, quietly opened Rockotlan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin about a year ago and it’s finally starting to make some noise.”

Finally?  It’s about friggin time is more appropriate.  Pedro is a bonafide Heavy Mexican and Rockotlan is definitely onto something special.  I wish there were one of these on the West Coast.  Read the entire story below and find out how you can wash down some tacos barrachos with a delicious Judas Priest - all while listening to the DJ spin your favorite metal jams!!!

Saw Rodrigo y Gabriella on Austin City Limits last night. It was absolutely fantastic. Gabriella’s right hand reminds me a lot of John Entwistles’ of The Who. Check your local PBS station to see when it airs again or click this link to watch it online: http://video.pbs.org/video/2318784862/

This happens today!  Get there asap!  If you didn’t rsvp you’ll have to get creative.  Support all the bands and the scene, but I beg you not to miss the Heavy Mexicans’ in Bonded By Blood.  You’ll be happy you did when your ears are bleeding on the way home after the show.

Cain Velasquez: A True Heavy, Heavyweight Mexican

image

Cain Velasquez was the first UFC Mexican Heavyweight Champion in history. I posted this achievement well over a year ago on this blog. Then he fought Junior Dos Santos and 64 seconds later he was the former champion. It left a very bad taste in his mouth and he’s been a man on a mission ever since. Well, well, well, what a difference a year can make! Cain couldn’t have regained the title in a more convincing manner. On Saturday night he handed Dos Santos a very lopsided (and devastatingly brutal) defeat to reclaim the UFC heavyweight title. Congrats Cain, you are truly one inspiring heavy, heavyweight mexican!

Bonded By Blood tonight at the Key Club in Hollywood

Fresh from the ‘Barge to Hell’ cruise and straight to the City of Angels. This might be the last chance to catch these talented heavy mexicans in 2012. It’s all ages and the legendary Hirax is playing too! What else do you need to know?
